The D4 Double Drone has been developed with a lot of care and testing over the past year! In fact, I've been working on this flute since IAMSOUND started. I remember one night on Kauai.... I was playing a D4 drone flute out under the stars at night and a shooting star went by right in my solo. It made an impact on me and here we are!
We've been working mostly on the positioning of the holes to make this large flute easy to play for most hands. It has been a difficult journey but we are finally ready with it! The holes are reachable and we even have little volcano-like rings around each hole so you can feel that they are securely pressed.
The airway has been designed to allow "just enough" air to keep those nice breathy tones flowing without fading out too fast. As much as I love the G4 and the original F#, This might very well now be my new favorite drone flute!
This D4 Double Flute is tuned to 440 Hz so you can have fun with it in music circles and jam sessions. It's in the 4th Octave and has a somewhat tall / narrow shape.
A lot of love and energy has gone into the development of these flutes (along with some flute solos while I watch them print) and I am excited to see these in the wild!
LIMITED INVENTORY/ Check back often for restocks + new colors
Tuned to 440 Hz
- Eco-friendly materials
- Sliding airway blocks for easy moisture removal
- Rear opening for optional mic clip and/or wearable neck strap
- Very portable with connecting pieces
DISASSEMBLY / ASSEMBLY:
This drone flute arrives assembled in numbered pieces. Please disassemble with care if deciding to do-so for portability (slowly wiggle around the joints as you pull). When re-assembling, please follow the numbering sequence. We recommend connecting the pieces part-way by hand, and then finding a hard floor surface (either with a rug or carpet) to tap the rest of the pieces in place until they lock (rubber malot works great as well if needed). We designed it this way to ensure the airways remain tightly sealed.

Sounded great and was fun to play. Struggled quite a bit with the condensation buildup making it impossible to get a good time. Wiping didn't clean it all out, so ended up needing to let it airdry for 30mns after every 5mns of play. Still happy with the overall purchase though
Can't beat the price compared to handcrafted wooden... I bought the d4 cuz I thought it was a low bass d .. somebody told me it wasn't but it's still cool though
We’re glad you’re enjoying your D4 Drone Flute! Even if it’s not exactly the low bass D you expected, it’s awesome to hear it’s still working well for you. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback!
Bought the F#4 Drone and it is a blast, so I tried the D4 Drone, and having a teriible go of it. Not sure if I don't have big enough fingers or lungs, but the F4# Kicks! Inconsistent tones on the lower 3 holes. HAve not given up though, bought an E4 single, and a D5 Triple today - hoping for better luck with those. Wish me luck !! Thanks for making this possible. Never played a flute in my life and now I play every day. Tks!!
This flute plays like a dream. The low, velvety notes that it produces are so satisfying to listen to. It also feels very comfortable to play (not too large). I own other flutes and ocarinas by I Am Sound and I love them all, but this one is my favorite.
Awesome! We’re glad the D Drone Flute resonates with you — it truly has that dreamy, grounding tone. Thank you for your continued support and for sharing your experience with our instruments!
I knew it was good when I played it for the first time and my wife said "WOW! What is that sound?"
Great! We love hearing stories like this. It sounds like the Black Drone Flute made a great first impression! Thanks for sharing your experience and for spreading the sound.
