IAMSOUND presents the A3 Double Flute in THE OCTAVE OF 3 - Now with advanced / premium material options.
For the 432 Hz version, Click Here.
(These materials have more refined / smooth surface which actually INCREASES the overall SOUND VOLUME - Get ready to go LOUD!)
This is our first drone flute in the 3rd octave and it's HUGE! (by far our biggest flute at the moment) Even though it's big, one of our themes for the 3rd octave is going to be minimalism. We wanted to create this flute with the least amount of material possible, while maintaining it's loud / low / rich sound and ease of play.... and that's exactly what we did here! I'm so happy with how it turned out and honestly surprised by how loud it is (especially when you experiment with vocal over-toning or beatboxing into it)
This A3 Drone is tuned to 440 Hz and is our first flute in the 3rd Octave (we're in the big leagues now!)
A lot of love and energy goes into the development of these flutes (along with some flute solos while I watch them print in my basement) and I am excited to see these in the wild!

DISASSEMBLY / ASSEMBLY:
This drone flute arrives assembled in numbered pieces. Please disassemble with care if deciding to do-so for portability (slowly wiggle around the joints as you pull). When re-assembling, please follow the numbering sequence. We recommend connecting the pieces part-way by hand, and then finding a hard floor surface (either with a rug or carpet) to tap the rest of the pieces in place until they lock (rubber malot works great as well if needed). We designed it this way to ensure the airways remain tightly sealed.

First off, I'm a beginner with these instruments, so keep that in mind. This was my second flute from I Am Sound, with the first being the much smaller D5 pocket drone. This flute is much larger than the D5 and also harder to play. It requires more breath and the holes are larger and spaced further apart, so they're harder to cover up properly. All that being said, the sounds you can make with this thing are wonderful. Deep, loud, resonate tones that you really feel. It's a slower and more methodical instrument than the D5. I often find myself doing speedy solos on the D5, but the A3 sounds wonderful just holding a note and letting it build and resonate. There's a lot of breath work involved with this bigger flute but it's really fun. It wouldn't be my go to choice if I was only going to have one flute, but it's still a really interesting piece to have in the collection.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review.
We really appreciate you describing your experience, especially as a beginner exploring different flutes. You're absolutely right, the A3 is a very different instrument compared to the D5 Pocket Drone Flute. The larger size, wider hole spacing, and increased breath requirement do make it more demanding, but we're glad to hear you're enjoying the deep, resonant tones and the slower, more meditative way it invites you to play.
It means a lot to us that you've found it to be a meaningful addition to your collection, even if it's not your everday go-to. Thank you again for your kind words and for sharing your journey with our instruments, feedback like this is incredibly valuable to us.
